Mexican to Swear By!!!

I've heard it a hundred times from Southern California natives: New York has no good Mexican food. While I can't argue in favor of places like Caliente Cab Company, there's at least one super delicious Mexican joint that even those picky So-Cal eaters will appreciate. The front looks like a bodega, but head straight back and you'll find a tiny stools only restaurant, decorated just like any place in Tijuana, and serving quesadillas, tortas, and tacos. On a tiny TV, you can watch a soccer game, or put some money into the jukebox to hear some authentic Mexican music. When you're finished eating and head back up front to pay, ask for a Flan to go. It's made in Passaic, but it's still the classic Mexican dessert to end a perfect meal.

Mexico is Alive in NYC

I've been to Mexico a bunch of times and I've eaten a lot of Mexican food in my life, but this place is off the charts. It ranks in the top 3 Mexican food experiences of my life. Tehuitzingo is a little Mexican deli in Clinton/Hell's Kitchen that hides a secret taco shack in the back. It may be a little intimidating at first but everyone in there is really cool and they all speak English so don't be afraid. You walk up to a little window in the back where 2 ladies are preparing some amazing stuff. I got a barbacoa taco (goat), a carnitas taco (pork) and a chicken sopes. Amazingly, all that delicious food cost only $8. The food took a few minutes to prepare so I knew they ladies were taking their sweet time to make sure the food came out right. This was definitely not the kind of slop house that threw together the food without some careful preparation.

Seating isn't abundant and is limited to stools along the wall but that only added to the charm of the place. The counters had a bunch of different hot sauces and condiments like pickled peppers but the food also came with a container of some pretty amazing hot sauce that I would recommend over the Tapatio - even though I love that stuff. If you want to go the extra mile, grab yourself a beer from the cooler and settle in for a beautiful taco and lager fueled ride. I recommend getting the 22 oz can of Modelo to make the meal truly authentic.

In the end, don't believe the rumors that there isn't any good Mexican food in NYC. They lie. Stupid liars.
